Lipsense First Impression/Review

Ooookay, hi.
Hence the title, this weeks blog is a first impression and review on a product called Lipsence by SeneGence. I’ve never heard of this product until my friend contacted me asking if I would do a review, but I’m honestly waAaAy excited to try it.

LipSense says it is “the premier product of SeneGence and is unlike any conventional lipstick, stain or color. As the original, patented, long-lasting lip color, it is waterproof, does not kiss-off, smear-off or budge-off.”
LipSense also claims to be “long-lasting lip color that stays on for up to 18 hours”……now I don’t know bout all that. When I hear 18 hours, I’m like “DAAAMN!” Because not only is that impressive, it’s terrifying.

Now this lipstick isn’t like your typical liquid lipstick that you jus throw on and go. The application process is a little whack. You apply in layers, only swiping in one direction. One layer, let dry, two layers, let dry, third layer, let dry, I’m sure ya get the idea. It says 3 layers is what it needs for full color potential.

Each kit comes with the lipstick, the lipgloss, and an oops! remover. (Can I throw that on some aspects of my life?) The lipsticks are $25, gloss is $20, and the remover is $10. Now if you buy the kit of all three, the price is $55. I thought that was a little weird because typically when you buy kits, you get a little discount. But that’s okay! Still not bad prices if you’re already used to high end products, not to mention whenever you buy a new color you’re spending only $25, not $55. Got it?

That pretty much sums it up for info. I’m jus gonna jump right into my review.

This is after one layer…yes, I know, even after exfoliating and moisturizing my lips, they still aren’t happy with the weather. Right off the bat, it feels realllllyyyy drying. I didn’t want to judge it until all my layers and gloss were on.

Two layers down…

Now this is the third layer…sure, the color is there, but I like my lipsticks to be fully opaque. Three layers is what it says to be full color potential.

I went ahead and added a couple more layers to see if this would be more of a color for me. It’s so damn thin I think you could add as many layers as you wanted. And let’s be real…I could wear cement on my lips as long as the color is dope. shoulder shrug

5…that’s better. This was the final layer I applied.

This is my final look. 5 layers of lipstick, and the matte gloss on top.

I’m really liking the color payoff after 5 layers, but that is very time consuming. It is still drying after the gloss, but not anything horrible and intolerant, ja feel?
I went ahead and timed it at 4 hours, then 8 hours. I feel like those are typical lengths we wear our lipstick…..I didn’t have it in me to sleep with it on and see if it actually lasted 18 hours. If y'all have done that, feel free to email me and let me know how that went. ?

4 hrs…
(Excuse my hideous on the go selfie)
You can tell the color is already starting to come off. I made sure I applied the gloss every time my lips felt like they needed it, this was about every 30-45 minutes.

8hrs…
An even worse selfie for y'all because my natural light has vanished. Also, PJ’s.
At this point the color is missing from the majority of my lips and also crumbling. Keep in mind I am not one to lick my lips or rub them together, and I have still been applying gloss fairly often.

Now, my final thoughts. DRUM ROLL PLEASE….
Right now, as a first impression, I would not recommend this product. Either I am an idiot at applying it, or it’s just not very user friendly. (Could be a little bit of both.)
It isn’t too drying, but the amount of times you have to apply gloss to keep it at a somewhat comfortable state just isn’t worth it to me.
When applying the lipstick itself, I did mess up, and the oops! remover was of no benefit to me. It was more beneficial for me to use a small lip brush and go over my mistake with foundation.
I am going to use this lipstick a couple more times. I don’t like to finally decide if I love or hate a product until I use it ATLEAST 2-3 times.

Hopefully this was helpful to some of you, and if you have any tips or techniques that you think would help me out a little bit with this lipstick, click the “say hi” button and let me know! That is also where you can all give me ideas for future blog posts.
